1) Vientiane, that’s the main
city. A specimen has been found of what
I’m calling on my website “Sp.4”. Nong reports: “On the 16 March 2004, a plant collector from Laos sent me some
samples of Nepenthes found in Laos. I noticed that
they came in 2 types: one with long, cylindrical pitchers and the other with
shorter traps. They looked like the usual Thai N. thorelii, and that’s
what we all believed they were. But yesterday, 21 May 2005, I rearranged some parts of my nursery. And I saw
some very beautiful pitchers I had never seen before. Their charming
pink color took my breath. They were hanging from the plant which I had
classified as N. thorelii “short pitcher-Laos”. A very similar plant has been
grown by Noah Elhardt some time ago, you can see a photo of the two plants one
near the other on the x-plants
page. While if you go on Nong’s site, you’ll see some
more pics of N. sp.4 from Laos. ATTENTION please:
during my 2006 trip to Thailand, Nong told me what
exactly happened. This man told Nong that sp.4 was collected in Laos but he didn’t say
where, and as this man lives near the border with Laos (in the Vientiane area) we all guess
that sp.4 comes from that area. The red spot on the map is random!
