Nepenthes of

N. smilesii on Phu Kradung
My name is Marcello
Catalano. I'm not a taxonomist but just a Nepenthes grower. That's why all the
personal opinions that I will express on this site, about the taxonomy of the
plants involved or about anything else, don't have to be considered as
scientifically approved but just as thoughts coming from a very curious mind.
This site is rough,
wild, hard to explore and to understand, exactly like its argument...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
30 april 2008 – the new N. bokor is in process of being
published by M. Cheek, read François Mey’s report on
the Cambodia map; N. kampotiana is now considered by
Cheek a species on itself (personal communication Dec. 2007), the whole website
has been changed in this sense, give a look to the “conclusions
so far”, at the bottom of “a long research”,
on the Cambodia map, on the x-plants
page and the Trat page; I removed “Nepenthes of
Laos” because for ages it was based on a single plant that we don’t even know
where it comes from!
10 january 2008 – Nepenthes
of Vietnam is online, with very interesting dry specimens and a report from
Eric Schlosser about Dalat; the new N. kongkandana is in process of being published by M. Cheek,
read the update at the bottom of Chanà;
the type specimen of N. smilesii from Baw Saw is finally available, the proof we were looking
for to use this name instead of N. anamensis; finally you can see how the
plants from Trat look like, see the bottom of the Trat page.
1 may 2007 – read what happened during my trip 2007!
12 may 2006 – all the news from my trip 2006; enjoy Nong’s
website about Nepenthes of Indochina through our easy
links.
3 sep 2005 – the new Nepenthes
of Laos is online, with only one note, regarding the new N. sp. 4; a new forum
has been created right to keep up the discussion about the Nepenthes of
Indochina, join us at the WildJungle; the X-plants page is online, with all the indochinese plants that are still not well identified,
including sp. 1, the first candidate for being the TRUE thorelii; a new plant
has been found at Ao Pangà,
check it out in the South Map, note 5, or at
the bottom of the x-plants page; Nong has started the Lid
Experiment, trying to classify the plants of his vast collection using
their lid shape and glands’ distribution
on its underside.
26 apr 2005 – a strange plant was discovered in a lowland jungle,
see the pics and a few infos
in the note 16 of The South map; N. smilesii
has been found in the lowlands, see one pic and a few
infos in the note 5 of The
South map; some more informations about the Kirirom
n.p. in Cambodia, by Julien Jedrusiak,
see note 2 of the Cambodia map; you can
finally give a look at the short text dedicated to N. anamensis (now called N.
smilesii) and N. thorelii in "A skeletal revision of Nepenthes", by
M. Jebb and M. Cheek, see the part "What’s on
the books" in my long research; Heiko Rischer provided some more pics of N. smilesii in habitat on Phu Kradung.
28 nov 2004 - N. "Viking" was added to the conclusions so far; a few pics by Tom Kahl were added to
the Phu Kradung note, in the northeast map; a new note and
3 pics of N. mirabilis, thanks to our thai agent Duke, were added to the Center Map; the new Nepenthes of Cambodia is online,
together with a few pics and notes by Julien Gedrusiak; the new Vip bookmarks will
show you how this website is becoming a point of reference for the whole
planet; also a few new lines and pics about N.
Viking, thanks to Nong, Duke and Shigeo Kurata, at the bottom of The Trip
page.
